"We got to see how
extensive a business can be, that there are a huge number of
departments which together make a business. I had previously viewed
the corporate world negatively, especially because of the recent
crisis, but this experience showed me many positive aspects to the
corporate world - how wide the net of business can be and the range
of job opportunities there are"
Fellows spent two weeks
with Group4Securicor in China and India. Below are some
of their thoughts and experiences.

Following on from two
weeks in Chennai, my group returned to Delhi for a two week
placement at G4S in Gurgaon, around an hour outside of the city
centre. I was absolutely amazed at the hospitality we received from
day one, we were greeted in the traditional Indian way, given a
bindi and presented with a garland of flowers. We were then
presented with official staff cards, and tailored for the company
uniform. G4S is a very diverse company, employing over 130,000
people across 180 branches throughout India; we were lucky enough
to be given the chance to meet and interact with employees on a
range of levels, but spent a large amount of time with company
presidents. The highlight of the placement for me would certainly
be when we were taken to the Cash Guarding Services, and were
allowed to see and hold vast, inorbinate amounts of cash, silver
and bulleon; we were also fortune to visit the British High
Commissioner, and have dinner with him and his family at his
residence. I developed good friendships with the staff of G4S
India, and we have continued to stay in close contact, and I am
looking to returning to the headquarters in the near future. On
behalf of all the Fellows placed at G4S, I would like to thank Mr
David Hudson, and all employees, for such an insightful and
enjoyable placement, in such a hospitable and welcoming
environment, thank you!!

G4S does not crave great publicity
or a sleek, glamourous image as a means of generating business. In
this, perhaps it differs to many global companies. G4S instead
prides itself on its professionalism and service, its adaptability
to the demands of both the client and the culture and the abilities
of its people. This is a truly global company because whilst it
retains core values, G4S operates very differently in one country
to the next, in an attempt to offer the best option possible to
potential customers. Security may well not be the most exciting
industry to some, but it is hugely competitive and an emerging
market across the world. G4S is well prepared to cope with this
because of the incredible ethos that pervades the company and the
tireless effort of staff. In our two weeks in the New Delhi
office, all five Global Fellows placed there were treated with
great respect and met with enthusiasm that was almost hard to
believe! The opportunities given to us, such as meeting current
clients, travelling to other bases within the region and engaging
with senior executives, made this a fantastic experience and a real
insight into the modern workplace.
