About

Applications are now closed for the 2010 Fellowship.  The deadline for submitting applications was Friday 18 December 2009.

All Fellows for the 2010 Global Fellowship programme have been selected. For information on applying for future programmes, please revisit this page later in the year.

Eligible candidates must be:

  • 18 or 19 years old on 1 July 2010
  • Resident in England
  • In full-time education at a state-maintained school or college, in training or apprenticeship, active in the youth sector in England or currently on a gap year*

* Unfortunately we do not accept applications from students in Higher Education, UNLESS you were under 18 on 1 July 2009 (and were therefore unable to apply last year)

Successful Fellows must commit to:

  • Attending a 3-day pre-departure briefing in early July
  • Travelling to Brazil, China or India for six weeks in the period July-early September 2010
  • Sharing what you have learned about the changing face of the global economy with other young people and communities in the UK upon your return
  • Attending a De-Brief Conference in the autumn of 2010

The programme does not end once the six weeks overseas are over. When Fellows are back in the UK they become part of a network of young people whose responsibility it is to communicate what they have learnt with as wide a community as possible.  The British Council will present opportunities for Fellows to attend conferences and networking events to represent the programme and share their ideas.  We will nevertheless expect all Fellows to be independently proactive and creative in their methods of communication and the opportunities they make for themselves and others.
